Dust
The amount of dust that accumulates on your turf will vary, depending on the location of your home to freeways, busy streets, manufacturing, trucking, etc. Take a moment to give your synthetic lawn a rinse every so often. It will stay looking as new as the day you installed it.
Weed Growth
A weed barrier and dry pre-emergent were installed with your artificial grass to help minimize weeds growing, (except for pet turf, where weed barriers are not installed as they collect pet urine). Some neighborhoods attract more weeds than others for a variety of reasons. Weed seeds from neglected neighbor’s yards can blow all over the neighborhood and spread weeds. Proximity to wind, animals and open spaces all contribute to weeds.
Face it; weeds can grow through anything, even concrete. SO even with our weed barrier and dry pre-emergent, you may see a few weeds pop up around the edges of your new synthetic grass. Simply pull the weeds by hand as you see the appear. This should only take 5 minutes every month or so. Please don’t use weed killer though. It won’t damage synthetic turf, but it will re-introduce toxins back into the yard area.
Depending on the size of your turf area, this might take 10 minutes every few months. I personally have artificial turf installed in my driveway and I maybe spend 5 minutes every 3 or 4 months. The rest of my yard is fairly weed free, as are my neighbor’s houses, so weeds in my neighborhood are not much of a problem.
Leaves
Rake or sweep the leaves off your synthetic grass with a broom or green rake instead of using a blower.
The infill for artificial turf acts as a ballast which weighs the turf down in the middle. It also acts as support to keep the blades standing erect and looking natural. The infill could be washed silica sand, special pet infill, or Tcool cooling infill.
Regardless of the infill, it is power brushed deep into the turf upon installation. Using a blower improperly could blow the infill out of the turf area. Most people point a blower straight down, and this can also cause the infill to accumulate unevenly over the area. If you must use a blower, use a light skimming action across the surface only.
Believe it or not, many clients actually leave a certain amount of leaves on their turf, as it makes the turf more natural looking.
Pet Turf odor
You may find odors might still appear on your pet turf, or even your regular artificial grass. This is usually dependent on the number of dog, the size of dogs, the age of dogs, and how big the pet turf area is in relation to the afore mentioned factors.
A do it yourself way to help alleviate this is to use Simple Green Outdoor turf cleaner. This can be found at most big box hardware stores. Simple Green products are safe and not toxic to your pets or family.
We also have a maintenance service where we can come out so often and do a deep cleaning, deodorizing, and add more infill to your artificial turf. Once again, the frequency depends on the previously mentioned factors.
Damaged turf
Accidents happen; especially when you have construction going on in your home. Contractors can get careless and tear, snag, stain, or even burn your synthetic grass. If a portion of your artificial turf becomes damaged, many times we don’t have to replace the entire grass. We can cut out the damaged section and seam in a new piece.
This is one reason the product data sheets we provide with our proposal are so important. We will be able to find the correct Tencate product at their local distribution warehouse. If you used another installer and they are out of business, we carry many other manufacturer’s samples strictly for matching damaged turf.
Food and Beverage Spills
Our domestic artificial turf is rugged and is made for you to use and enjoy. Families tend to have more picnics, barbeques, and family get togethers after they install artificial turf (no mud, wet grass, and sinking chairs!)
Food and beverage spills are bound to happen. Adults spill their wine; kids spill the ketchup. Don’t worry! Most spills will hose off easily from your synthetic grass. If they don’t, pull out that bottle of Simple Green turf cleaner and let it soak for a moment and you should be good to go!
All Tencate artificial turf products come with a 15 year warranty, and their products are warehoused here in Anaheim. Domestic made Tencate products are always on hand locally.
